Serena Williams Marries Alexis Ohanian In New Orleans
It’s been a rather big year for Serena Williams.
She started off 2017 by winning the Australian Open. Not bad. That would be her final event for the year, though- she shut it down not due to injury, but because she was pregnant! (She was pregnant when she won the AO!) She then gave birth to her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. with the news breaking September 1.
Now, she’s wrapping up 2017 by marrying her fiancée and the father of her baby girl, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in New Orleans. The couple were married tonight at the New Orleans Contemporary Arts Center in a ceremony rumored to cost $1 million. Earlier reports indicated Serena banned all cell phones (to prevent photos showing up on Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook) because she made a deal with Vogue’s Anna Wintour for exclusive photo rights. According to WWL TV in New Orleans, the city was chosen “after spending years visiting and training here with fitness expert Mackie Shilstone. Shilstone says Williams fell in love with New Orleans and had to have her wedding here.”
@serenawilliams: You are the greatest of all time, not just in sport–I’m talking about as a mother and as a wife. I am so excited to write so many more chapters of our fairy tale together. And my whole life I didn’t even realize it, but I was waiting for this moment. And everything that I have done, everything that I am so proud of in my career, and in my life, for the last 34 years, pales in comparison to what we’re doing today. And I am so grateful, and I am so in love. 📸 @melbarlowandco @allanzepedaphotography
